Hector Reyes Jr. lives part of the time in Portland Oregon and the other part in a squishy universe lit by a nuclear bag of Skittles and inhabited by charming and confused creatures that can’t help but destroy everything they come in contact with. Like Looney Tunes on a Salvia binge these characters are bad choices wrapped in good intentions and completely devoid of self-awareness. What makes them so extra-charming is not just their loveable naiveté, but the way Hector composites them so deftly against his graphic design sensibilities. The colors, textures and patterns hint at many eras in the second half of the 20th century but not a single one can be pinned down. They have all been microwaved, wrapped in cellophane and set on fire.

Hector is always working. Whether professionally – making video games, or leisurely – bringing his subconscious to life with gesso and acrylics, or loudly – playing drums. Every moment of Hector’s life is full of noise, color and confusion. His work only hints at the inner deafening cacophony in which he lives.
